Halloween Movie 2018

In October of 2018 horror fans are in for a real treat. A new Halloween film. But, wait before you get all negative listen to this...this film is a direct sequel to the 1978 original. Michael Myers murdered his sister in 1963 when he was the tender age of 6. He escaped the hospital and murdered 3 more people in 1978 when he was 21. Now 40 years later he is at it again. You can ignore all the rest of the films and anything you learned there because according to this film they never happened. Even Rob Zombie’s awesome look into what made Michael tick...not true. Michael Myers is the emotionless, evil person we thought he was in the beginning. No horrible childhood to try and humanize him, he is just prime evil. You need to check out the trailer. It looks like what a horror film should look like.

Not only is this film an exciting new look into Michael Myers but it brings back MANY key players from the 1978 version. Jamie Lee Curtis will reprise her role as Laurie & Nick Castle is back as Michael Myers/The Shape. John Carpenter is involved once again as composer, executive producer and creative consultant. Danny McBride is in the director’s chair again. Moustapha Al Akkad was a producer for the original who died in 2005 but, his son Malek Akkad will be following in his father's footsteps yet again. Malek has worked on 5 other Halloween films. It is my hope that with so much input from people involved in the original it will have that old school feel of a great horror film.

I recently re-watched the original and that music that we all associate with Halloween movies is incredible. Something about that high toned repetitive sound just gets your heart pumping waiting for what is to come next.  I hope they use it in this new film. The trailer seems to incorporate this iconic music. Carpenter has said he could use the old score, rework a new one or a combination of both depending on what the movie needs. It will be interesting to see what he comes up with.

While viewing the trailer I did notice the filming is much different but, that is to be expected since there is a much larger budget for this film and the fact that it is 40 years later.  I was hoping that we would get back to the feel of the first film. It was quiet and lonely. With a budget of only $300,000 they had poor lighting and couldn’t afford extras so that is why that film has that dark & eerie feeling to it.

I for one am very excited about this movie. I like the thinking that nothing in Myers life lead him to do what he does. That he is just evil and he will continue on this path until someone stops him. It makes for a much better villain. I have enjoyed the other movies in the Halloween franchise but it is really great to have another dimension, if you will, to continue on the greatness that is Michael Myers & the Halloween films.

In theaters October 19, 2018.
